How happy are you in your life?
Do you have a feeling of fulfillment or deprivation?
If you are feeling deprived, what is it you think you need to change that?
If you feel like you are living a deprived life, take some time to check in with your thoughts. Determine what it is that is triggering you to feel that way.
This is a powerful quote by Marcus Aurelius. By simply shifting the way you think about your life, you can change a perceived negative to a positive. I think the problem, however, is that most people compare their life to other peoples’ lives and that is where they get in to trouble.
We experience a constant overload of marketing and advertising to buy stuff we don’t even need, as well as spending the majority of time envying other people wearing expensive jewelry, driving fancy cars, and traveling to exotic places.
When surrounded by all of that “noise,” what goes through your mind? Are you able to tune it out or do you allow it to take over how you view your own life? Do you allow it to make you feel inadequate?
If you didn’t have all that “noise” coming at you from every angle, what would you think and how would feel? Do you think feelings of having a deprived life would be a concern?
When we engage in the comparison game of all those around us, it can certainly start to sway how we view ourselves. Yes, there are some luxuries that I am sure we would all love to have or experience. However, they are not requirements to living a happy, fulfilled life.
A happy life can be derived simply by how you view it. Appreciating your own life for everything that it is versus spending energy thinking about someone else’s life and their experience will wash away that feeling of deprivation.
Now, if there are aspects of your life that you want to improve then definitely start taking action to make those changes. Make sure to do so, however, from a viewpoint that your life is a blessing and a journey.
Holding on to a mindset that your life is incomplete and needs external things to provide happiness will be a sure fire way to cause unease.
You create your happiness. Start with your thinking and your outer view will change.
Now it’s your turn.
How does this quote inspire you?
Tell me about an experience where you allowed yourself to compare your life to others. Did it lead you to think your life was not enough? If so, were you able to overcome those negative thoughts?
