Do you appreciate the little things in life?
Is there anything you often take for granted?
Do you overlook the simple intricacies that life has to offer?
Take some time to reflect on those things that surround us every day. How often do we forget to acknowledge the importance of them, no matter how small? It could be daily interactions with loved ones or a cool breeze on a hot day.
This quote by Robert Brault reminds us that there could come a day in our lives where we look back and regret not appreciating those little things we may have overlooked at one time or another. It could be as simple as walking outside and breathing in the fresh air. That may sound silly to some people but think about it. We often don’t appreciate something until it’s no longer available.
For example, take something as simple as taking a few deep breaths through your nose. Take a minute or two to do that. Now think back to when you had a bad cold. Breathing through your nose was as challenging as those extreme sports in see on television. In that moment, how good would it have been to be able to take those deep breaths?
I recently traveled from my home on the East Coast to stay with a friend in San Diego, California for two weeks. This was a great opportunity for me to change up my physical environment for a bit to spark some new creativity and inspiration, as well as experience a new perspective.
While there, we headed over to the University of San Diego to check out the gorgeous campus. Off in the distance I was able to catch the sun setting. For the first time in quite a while, I forgot how beautiful it was to witness that. As I sat down on one of the campus benches, which overlooked San Diego, I took the time to appreciate the moment.
It was crazy to think that here is this amazing sunset, which happens every day, yet how many times do we actually take a few minutes to be present and enjoy what it has to offer.
Those moments make you realize all of the amazing things in your life that you sometimes forget are there.
However, being able to slow down allows us to appreciate those little things in the moment. Be present in the now, practice gratitude for everything around you because you never know when those opportunities will be gone.
Is there anything in your life right now that deserves some acknowledgment?
Now it’s your turn.
