Are you feeling stuck?
Do you avoid discomfort by only doing what you know?
Are you open to trying and experiencing new things?
Take some time, think about your current situation, and how set habits, routines, and patterns of thinking and doing impact your life. Decide whether your old way of living is now outdated and ask yourself if it’s time for an upgrade to your mental software.
I chose this quote by Terry Tempest Williams because I constantly hear people tell how they are feeling stuck and want something to change. They desperately want their external environment to change but they are not willing to do the most important thing in order for that change to happen and that is to make the change within them.
It can be challenging to adjust to a new environment or situation, especially if you’ve been in a pattern of an existing one for a long time. When we get used to certain ways of doing things, breaking from the routine that has been hard-wired by repetition can be rather tough.
It is definitely a shock to your system if you are used to something for so long then you step outside that pattern and try something new. However, if you are feeling stuck in your current situation it is important to switch things up to allow for a new perspective and for growth to occur.
If you don’t change then nothing changes.
I know, for myself, I avoided trying new things or doing things differently for many years. As I reflect back, I was like a programmed robot going through the same motions day in and day out. Have you ever heard the expression “Same shit, different day?”
If you have ever used that response when someone asked you “What’s new?” guess what, it’s because you keep repeating the same old patterns and habits. You keep thinking the same old beliefs. The truth is it’s your fault things are the same.
So, I ask you right now, if you are feeling stuck and need a change, what are you afraid of?
I am not saying you need to immediately go skydiving or pee in to the wind to in order to shake things up but maybe it’s time you re-evaluate you current way of thinking and doing things.
Think about what you can do each day to start breaking the old patterns keeping you stuck and let the creativity flow in to allow change to occur.
If you are having a difficult time doing this on your own and need support, guidance, and accountability reach out.
Remember, all it takes is 1% progress each day. Small steps lead to big achievements.
Now it’s your turn.
How does this quote inspire you?
Tell me about an experience where you were feeling stuck and knew you had to change in order for the situation to change; however you were resistant to it. Did you eventually push past that resistant to make the needed changes within?
If so, what was the outcome? If not, are you still feeling stuck?
