Who are you being in the present moment?
What is your vision of the person you want to become?
Are you wishing it to happen or are you living that vision every day?
Take a minute and acknowledge if the person you are being on a daily basis is moving in the direction of the person you want to become.
This quote by Richard G. Scott certainly gets the brain gears turning. How many times you have heard someone say, “I wish I was…” or “If I only was…?” Whatever that “was” may be, whether it’s being more confident, assertive, or less fearful. However, how often do you see those people attempting to embody those qualities with which they want to become? Maybe even you’ve said that before as well. If so, were you actively trying to step in to that version of you that you envision.
For many, they desire to become a stronger version of themselves yet are not always willing to put forth the effort to make it happen or don’t know how to do it or are unsure of what that would look like. So, what happens? We stay stuck in a pattern of wishing, not becoming. The image that they hold for themselves simply remains just that… an image.
Imagine for a second a house but not just any house. Create within your mind your ultimate dream home. How would it look?
Now what would it take in order for that house to actually become reality (aside from the financial aspect, of course)? It would take a clear vision and require consistent work and effort every day in order for that house to come in to existence.
Would you agree?
I was on my weekly call with my coach and we were discussing this topic. Something I spent many years doing was focusing on the person I no longer wanted to be instead of working towards being a better version of myself. I continually focused on the person I was trying to move away from which actually kept me stuck. The reason for that was I did not have a clear vision of who it was I wanted to become; I just knew it was someone different.
You can’t achieve something if you have no idea of what it is that you want to achieve.
So, if you are in a similar situation as I was, looking to improve the person you are for yourself and the people in your life the best way to get moving is to create a clear vision of who it is you want to become.
I love making lists. The act of physically writing stuff out and seeing it in front of you is powerful. Start by making a list of all of the qualities, habits, and values you want to embody and incorporate those in to your daily living every day. I’m not saying this will be easy.
You are now beginning to shift whom you thought you were for so long and that can be awkward at first. You will see, as the quote suggested, you will start to become the person you want to be by being that person each day.
And as you do this your confidence, self-esteem, and overall well-being will improve.
Now it’s your turn.
