Is your focus on yourself or someone else?
Are other people’s lives distracting you from your own?
If so, what is it specifically that draws your attention to them?
Take a minute and think about how much time and attention you may have devoted at one time or another focusing on others as opposed to taking care of your own business.
Think about how often people get so wrapped up in what others are doing that they neglect what is going on in their own world. They would rather concern themselves with the lives of others completely ignoring their own.
Take reality television for example and how insanely popular it has become. Are you guilty for watching it? Be honest, it’s ok. There is no judgment here. However, let me ask you, how cool would it be to live your own life the way that you want as opposed to watching someone else’s.
It would be pretty empowering.
I’m not just referring to the people seen on reality television but also this applies to co-workers, friends, ex-lovers.
Are you are familiar with Esther Hicks, Abraham, and the Law of Attraction? If not, definitely go check it out. I remember attending one of the seminars a while back and Abraham, channeled through Esther, was telling the audience a story about something that happened to Esther the day prior.
One of the audience members raised their hand and asked if there was any thought of creating a show based on Esther, her daily interactions with Abraham, and how exciting that would be to see it. Abraham smirked and said yes it might be exciting to watch Esther or you could just live your own life. How exciting that would be.
It definitely got a laugh and a round of applause from everyone because how quickly we forget that we each have our own life and we get to create what we want it to be.
If you are constantly focusing on everything that everyone else is doing, what is that doing for you? How is that helping you create the best version of you or is it holding you back? Would you agree that now is the time to stop?
If you are not sure how to do this, start by getting in touch with your likes, passions, and hobbies. If you had an hour of time, what would you enjoy doing other than sitting in front of the television? Channel your inner child, be inspired, and get creative because it’s a lot more interesting to be in the game of life playing than sitting on the sidelines watching others.
Now it’s your turn.
How does this quote inspire you?
Tell me about an experience where focusing on someone else pushed your own life aside. In doing so, how did it affect you? Do you find yourself still doing that today? If so, what is one thing you can do to shift that focus from them back to you?
