What do you focus on?

Do you focus on the positive or the negative?

Do you focus on yourself or others?

Take a few minutes and think about what you typically focus on in your daily life. Is it on possibility and opportunity or doom and gloom? Is it on becoming the best version you can be or on judging what other people are doing?

This quote by Tony Robbins is short, to the point, yet extremely powerful, and so true. The more attention you give to something, the more it comes your way. Have you ever met someone, who, all they did was focus on all of the things going wrong? They kept their sight laser focused on the negative of every situation and that was all they were able to see.

Another scenario could be when buying a new car. What typically happens? You start to see the same model car popping up everywhere you go, right?

When we focus on something, intentionally or unintentionally, we tend to experience more of that thing.

A fun example of this is back from when I was younger. One winter I went with a friend to his grandparents’ house in upstate New York. He had a few dirt bikes, including a three-wheeler. Typically when he rode them, I sat on the back but this time I had the opportunity to ride it by myself.

His grandparents had acres of property so it was the perfect place to ride in an open area and have a good time. I want to note that off in the distance of this snow covered field was a single oak tree… Well, I think it was oak. Either way, it was the only tree in the whole field.

Can you see where I am going with this? Remember, where focus goes, energy flows.

After I got my instructions on what to do and what not to do, I was ready to take off. As I began my solo ride, all I kept staring at was that tree in the distance, standing alone, minding its own business.

I could not help it though. There was that tree. I knew it was there, as if it was calling to me, and as I kept looking at it…, it started to get closer…, and closer…

I could not steer in any direction but straight ahead towards that tree. It was as if my hands were puppets to their master, my eyes.

There I was, riding a three-wheeler for the first time in my life, in this beautiful winter wonderland, the home to one random tree. What do you think happened next?

I hit the tree…

I would like to put the blame on the tree for jumping out of nowhere but we both know that would not be true. It was all me. I pretty much darted in a straight-line right for it. There was no quicker path to get there than the one I took.

All of my focus and attention went right to that tree from the start.

I ask you again, what do you focus on each day?

Does it benefit you positively or is it time you shift that focus and allow your energy to flow in a different direction? A more beneficial direction?

Now it’s your turn.
