Do you often feel anxious?
If so, what are the worries and concerns that come to your mind?
Are they actually true, happening in the moment, or simply imagined, made up scenarios?
If you often experience anxiety, take some time to look at some of your past worries and discover what you focused on to spark that anxious feeling. Recall if anything you were worried about actually happened.
This quote by Amit Ray focuses on how being present in the moment can help relieve any future worries or concerns that are weighing you down. Allowing yourself to worry about something that may or may not even happen somewhere off in the future robs you from right now.
And would you agree that once right now is over you will never get it back?
However, think about how much time people sometimes spend worrying and wondering about the future. If that resonates with you, how much more peaceful and at ease could you be if you simply directed your attention to your present moment? What if letting go of whatever your mind was creating as a potential future worst-case scenario allowed your anxiety to fade away.
When we are fearful of what is yet to come or what we think might happen based on the past we forget to realize and acknowledge that we are actually quite safe in the moment. Those imagined worries are not happening right now but they pull us out of experiencing life as it is currently playing out.
How can you enjoy life when your attention isn’t on what is happening to you right now?
Can you remember those times in your life when you were fully present? When you were living in the moment how did it feel? What were you doing? Did anxiety play a role then?
In those moments of anxiety and uncertainty, check in with yourself. Uncover what your anxiety is about, and see if it is true. Look at what you can do now to prepare yourself in the event you do experience an unwanted outcome. Also, know that although you can’t control the future, you can control your reaction to it.
Now it’s your turn.
