Are you still holding on to past negative experiences?

If so, are you allowing those experiences to enter your present moment?

Is that helping you or hurting you?

Take some time and look to see what, if any, past negative experiences you might still be carrying around and whether you are pulling those in to your life as it is today.

This quote by Nicholas Sparks is so important because sometime people fail to let go and move on from something they perceived as negative they experienced in the past. They then bring those memories and feelings in to their current life situation and perhaps allow it to influence them in a disempowering way.

This is especially true when it comes to relationships. It’s even more prevalent as you get older and perhaps have had several relationships where things did not work out the way you hoped they would for whatever reason.

We’ve all been hurt and I’m sure you would agree that we don’t want to go through that again. However, if we are unable learn, let go, and move on from those experiences, what tends to happen?

We carry that shit in to the next relationship. I can admit to catching myself sometimes doing this too.

The key is to recognize it and see what is going on within you. Look to see whether there are old wounds that still need some healing. It’s important to learn and grow from our past relationships. To become better versions or ourselves for the next relationship we enter.

Think about it. How can you establish something fresh and new based on your life as it is right now when you are still dragging all the junk from the past and projecting that on to the new relationship and partner?

What happened in the past is in the past. It’s over and it’s never coming back. There is no reason to hold on to it because it will only serve you and those around you in an unhealthy way.

Life is about learning and growing from our experiences. It’s about becoming stronger in the process, not carrying it around like an anchor weighing you down from living and enjoying your life today.

Use your past as a reference to serve and support you, not hold you back from moving forward. Your past is not your future. Let it go. That is empowering!

Now it’s your turn.

How does this quote inspire you?

Tell me about an experience where you let your past interfere with your present. Did it help your or hinder you?

Have you learned to let go and move forward or are you still bringing past events in to your present moment?
