Do you need a Life Coach?
Do you follow your heart or the heart of others?
Do you need to be with the crowd or can you stand-alone?
Are you choosing your own path or allowing others to choose it for you?
Take a few minutes to look at which direction you are headed in life. Determine if it is in alignment with your values and goals or if you are merely following others because you want to feel like part of the crowd. If that is the case, do their values and goals line up with yours? Answering these questions can help you decide, if you need a life coach.
This quote by Diane Grant is one of courage and truth. It takes courage to make the decision to walk alone when you know that is the better option than to continue down a path with others that you know will not benefit you.
However, many people do not choose to walk alone. They continue moving with the crowd so they have that feeling of acceptance and belonging. However, is it worth that acceptance it if it comes from the wrong people?
Have you ever heard that expression, “If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you follow?” I remember hearing that as a kid and found it funny because I did not understand what it really meant at the time. However, as I got older I can completely appreciate the value and meaning it provides.
When we are young, we often choose to hang around people that probably did not always have our best interests in mind but we did so anyway because we wanted to fit in. We wanted that acceptance and belonging that we all longed for.
Even as adults, some may find themselves still in a similar situation because that sense of belonging becomes such an important aspect of their lives.
However, I want to challenge that by asking you if it is worth it. Is it worth following the crowd when you know, deep in your heart, it is not the direction you want to go?
I know that it can be lonely taking the path least traveled but I think you would agree that if that path is in alignment with your goals, aspirations, and who you are as an individual, ultimately, that is where you need to be.
By doing so you stay true to yourself which is quite empowering. In addition, as you break away from the herd and follow your heart’s path, you will eventually find people that are also in alignment with you heading the same direction.
So, what is it going to be? You get to choose your path.
Now it’s your turn.
How does this quote inspire you?
Tell me about an experience where you followed the crowd even though you knew it was not the best choice. Were you looking for acceptance and belonging? If so, was it worth compromising who you are in the process?
If you find yourself in that situation now, what can you do to begin shifting your direction?
