Do you practice appreciation in all areas of your life?

Or are you constantly focused on what you believe you are missing?

If you’ve been focusing on that feeling of lack, what impact has it had in your daily life?

Take a few minutes now and consider how you view your life and if you are constantly in a pursuit to acquire more without ever taking the time to appreciate what you already have.

This quote by Oprah Winfrey addresses something most people hung up on and that is focusing on what they don’t have or believe they need instead of being thankful for what they do have. If you focus on what you think you are missing, it will be rather difficult to live an abundant life.

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced moments in our lives where we direct our attention directly on what we don’t have. We think that if had all of the things beyond our reach, it would solve the problems we perceive to have in the present moment.

We sometimes get caught up in this belief that we have to do more, to have more, to then be something so that we can feel a certain way within ourselves, whether that is a greater of level of happiness, security, safety, certainty.

However, when you allow yourself to participate in this hamster wheel mentality, enough will never feel like enough and what you currently have will never make you feel as satisfied or fulfilled. You will always be chasing a future moment in time while your present moment passes by unnoticed or appreciated.

Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t strive to improve yourself, your relationships, or your current situation. Life is about growth, progress, and moving forward. It’s also about being able to appreciate where you are in the process and enjoying each moment on your journey.

However, if you ever said or heard someone say, “I won’t be satisfied until I achieve…” or “I won’t be happy until I have…” whether that is a specific job, a relationship, a certain of financial status. What happens?

You finally get that “thing” and after a brief period of euphoria, you are back to focusing on what you still don’t have or what you still think you need.

It becomes a never-ending cycle.

Until you stop and realize you already do have plenty of abundance around you and there is so much to be thankful for right now. It’s about being satisfied in your current stage of life, acknowledging and appreciating that, while still actively pursuing to grow and become the best version of you in all areas of life.

So, if you are focused on what you don’t have, I urge you… stop for a second… look around you.  Appreciate your life as it currently is and I know by doing this, your feeling of lack will shift to a feeling of abundance.

Now it’s your turn.
